Well, I finally read a Sjöwall and Wahlöö crime novel after all these years of hearing how great they were. It is a bit dated, for instance the detectives seem to be talking on cell phones in 1965 (Huh!?!) but there were no cell phones in 1965 – not even close! It took me awhile but I finally realized the pair were using walkie-talkies, and then I saw where that was mentioned, but … it took me back. There is also a lot of talk about “fem jeop” (female jeopardy) and apparently unethical cops unless entrapment was okay in some circumstances.

I used to love the Martin Beck books. I haven’t set eyes on them since probably the 70s — I’m sure they seem very dated now.
