When the Oxford College Warden’s granddaughter comes to visit him at school all the men fall in love with her at first sight.  She is beautiful and has some kind of allure that seems to overwhelm the entire male student population – except the Duke   She is a magician by trade but the trick turns out to be her falling in love for the first time in her life – at least for a minute while the Duke, the object of this love,  does not love her.  But alas,  he also succumbs,  so it’s all over for the two.   He proposes,  she refuses,  she insists he kill himself out of  love for her – but what about all the other men at Oxford?   This book is very funny.
